Are you just starting out as a motorcycle rider ? Planning to get your first bike ? Then you need to know about CBT - or Compulsory Basic Training.

Riding a motorcycle safely requires skill and knowledge. Due to the very high accident rate suffered by new, inexperienced motorcycle riders, in 1990 the government made it compulsory for anyone wishing to ride a motorcycle or moped on the road to complete some basic training first. You need to obtain a Certificate of Completion following the training before going out to ride on the road with L plates, the days when you could buy or borrow a motorcycle and slap on some L plates before heading out on the road are gone.

CBT is completed in five stages, in order, you will only be allowed to move on to the next stage when your trainer is satisfied that you know the theory and can demonstrate the skill required:
